mon ami JP

Mon ami JP est gérant-propriétaire de la compagnie de Taxi ici à Norman Wells (qui est composé de 1 taxi). Il conduit pratiquement tous les soirs quand il finit de travailler à la shop (mécanique automobile). Alors souvent quand je veux passer du temps avec lui, je vais faire un tour de taxi. On se promène, ramasse des gens et on écoute de la musique dans le stationement du bar/ Queen (notre plus gros hit). Il part demain pour retourner à l'école alors Dimanche nous avons décidés de faire ce que l'on fait de mieux: aller se promener en auto avec nos caméras. J'ai passé un vraiment très belle journée et je suis plutôt triste de le voir partir.

My friend Jp runs the taxi company here in Norman Wells which is 1 taxi. He drives pretty much every night after he's done working at the shop (automobile mechanic). so when I want to hangout with him, I go for a cab ride. we drive around, pick up people, hangout in the parking lot in front of the bar listening to some tunes/Queen (our #1 hit). He's leaving for school tomorrow and on sunday we decided to do what we do best, go for a drive. so we took our camera and went for a drive. I had a good day and I'm sad to see him leaving.

Lorsque l'on est sur le "ice road" on une différente perspective du quai qui l'été est à hauteur de l'eau. 

when we are on the "ice road" we get a really different perspective of the duck which is during summer time, at water level. 

La décharge municipale de Norman Wells n'est pas seulement remplis de déchêts domestiques mais aussi de voitures abandonnées, de trailers désafectés et de montagnes de sécheuses. 

the dump in Norman Wells isn't only filled with domestic garbages but also with abandoned trucks, old trailers and mountains of dryers.

Avec mon nouvel objectif grand angle, les arbres prennent un aspect beaucoup plus gigantesques qu'ils ne le sont.

L'autre soir Marti et moi sommes parties à la chasse aux aurores. Il n'y en avait pas mais les étoiles étaient belles

The other night marti and I went to chase the nrothern lights. there was none but the stars were pretty.

Je viens d'emménager avec mon amie Angela qui est infirmière ici. Nous sommes aller prendre une marche l'autre soir avec Nuka sa jolie petite chienne. 

I just moved in with my friend Angela who's a nurse here in Norman Wells. The other night we went for a walk with Nuka her really adorable dog.

Katherine et moi sommes aller prendre une marche sur le fleuve Mackenzie hier. Le couché de soleil était à couper le souffle! 

Last night I went for a walk on the Mackenzie river with Katherine. The sunset was beautiful.

Première visite à Calgary et Banff!

Pendant mes vacances je suis aussi allé visiter mon amie Rachel (qui travaillait avec moi à Norman Wells il y a 2 étés) à Calgary. Environ 2 heures après mon arrivé (par bus) le père de Rachel (Bill) nous propose d'aller visiter la tour de Calgary.

During my vacation I also went to see my friend Rachel (who was working with me 2 summers ago, in Norman Wells) in Calgary. About 2 hours after my arrival (by bus) her dad (bill) suggested that we would go check out the Calgary Tour.

Après notre visite à la tour Bill nous a ammené chez Peters', les meilleurs Milkshakes à Calgary (je dois avouer que mon milkshake lime et mangue fait avec de la vrai crème glacée était plutôt imbattable)! 

After our visit at the tour Bill took us to Peter's, best milkshakes in Calgary (I gotta say, my mango-lime milkshake made with real icecream was pretty amazing)! 

 Le lendemain, nous sommes allées passer la journée au Zoo de Calgary, un des plus grand zoo au Canada.

The next day we went to the Calgary Zoo, one of the biggest zoo in Canada.

Le surlendemain rachel et moi somme parties en petit road trip à Banff . La photo ci-dessus est prise du banc où nous avons dinner.

The following day Rachel and I went for a little road trip to Banff. The next picture was taken from the bench where we had lunch. 

J'étais quand même contente de revenir à la maison. J'ai ramener avec moi une glacière remplie de fruits et de légumes. le soir même de mon arrivée j'ai fait un souper de fondue au fromage (avec pleins de légumes frais) suivi d'une fondue au chocolat (avec pleins de fruits frais et de chocolat de pâques acheté en vente!) Après un super beau souper, en conduisant vers la maison je n'ai pu résister l'envie de prendre une photo du ciel magnifique et rose en contraste avec les arbres. Souvent les gens me demande pourquoi je vis ici. Souvent j'ai de la misère à l'expliquer mais c'est après des aussi belles soirées que je me dis: oui, c'est pour ça que j'habites ici. 

I was still really happy to get home. I brought back a cooler full of fruits and vegetables. The same night I had cheese fondue (with tons of fresh vegetables) followed by a chocolate fondue (with tons of fresh fruits and easter chocolate bought on sale) with a bunch of my friends. On my way home after dinner I couldn't resist taken a picture of the beautiful pink sky with the contrast of the trees. Often people ask me why I live here and I always have a hard time explaining it. After having such a good night with my friends and looking at the beautiful sky, I could feel it inside of me: this is why I live here. 

VACATION!!! WIOW

Ça fait depuis le mois de Septembre que je n'ai pas quitté les Territoires du Nord-Ouest...la ville de 800 habitants je l'aime bin, sauf que à un moment donné...faut en sortir un peu et voir d'autres paysages. Je me paye une grosse vacance pour la semaine de relâche...EDMONTON! les gens trouvent ca bizarre quand je dis ca parce que edmonton bin...disons que ce n'est pas la destination voyage #1. Sauf que c'étais bin en masse pour moi.

The last time I went out of the territories was september...the town of 800 people I really like it but, after a while...you just have to get out and see something else. So I went on a big vacation for spring break...EDMONTON! I know people think it's weird because let's just say that Edmonton isn't vacation destination #1. But it was way more than enough for me.

Pour les premiers jours où j'étais à Edmonton j'ai été hébergée par mon ami Ilia qui a voyagé avec moi dans le cadre du programme Jeunesse Canada Monde en 2008. Son appartement est au 16e étage d'une tour à appartement et à une vue magnifique sur la Saskatchewan river. Les fenêtres sont abondantes, la lumière magnifique et c'est rempli de trucs intéressants à regarder.

The first couple days I was in Edmonton I stayed at my friend Ilia's house who I traveled with when I did Canada World Youth in 2008. His apartment is on the 16th floor of an apartment building and had a splendid view on the saskatchewan river. There's plenty of windows, beautiful light and a lot of interesting stuff to look at.

Winter road to Good Hope with Marti!

Mon amie Marti est agent de la faune et travaille pour le gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest. Pour le travail elle devait aller porter une grosse porte à Fort Good Hope. La porte était dans une grosse boîte de bois, poids total: 400livres. Bref, la route qui mène à Good Hope est une route qui n'est ouverte que l'hiver. En chemin on passe sur des petits ruisseaux et rivières et la route est de neige d'un bout à l'autre. Comme il commence à faire chaud est beau la route va fermer dimanche car elle sera non praticable par la suite. Entre temps elle n'est ouverte que la nuit. Donc, mercredi soir Marti devait partir de Norman Wells à 10hr PM conduire de nuit, laisser la porte là-bas, aller chercher une fille avec qui elle travaille et revenir. J'ai donc décidé de me joindre à elle pour la route.

My friend Marti works for the NWT government as conservation officer. For work she had to bring a big door (in a crate...total weight: 400lbs) to Fort Good Hope. The road that goes to good hope is a winter road, on the way you drive over little rivers and the road is made out of snow from one end to the other. As it's starting to get warm and nice out, the road is only driveable at night. So, on wednesday night Marti had to leave norman wells at 10 PM, drive all the way there, drop off the door, pick up a coworker and drive back. I decided to join her for the ride. 

Les paysages sont plutôt tristes pour les premiers kilomètres. Un feu à ravager la forêt autour de Norman Wells en 2005, ce sont donc des kilomètres de forêt en regénération que nous laissons derrière nous en quittant la ville. Ensuite nous arrivons dans un environnement complètement différent. Les arbres sont de hauteur comparable aux forêts de chez nous. Ca fait longtemps que je n'ai pas vu d'arbres si haut que j'en reste impressionnée.

The landscapes are sad for the first couple kilometers. A fire burnt down the forest around Norman Wells in 2005. It is kilometers of forest in regeneration that we leave behind us when we leave town. Than we get to a really different environment. The tress are as tall as back home. It's been a while since I've seen trees that high and I stay really impressed. 

La route n'est pas très large et souvent les véhicules que l'on croisent sont des semi-remorques. On doit donc s'arrêter sur le bord de la route et se coller sur le banc de neige le plus possible pour pouvoir faire le croisement. 

The road isn't really wide and most of the vehicules that we see are semis. We than have to stop on the side of the road close to the snow bank to be able to cross.  

Clin d'oeil: arrivé à good Hope, le gars qui était supposé nous aidé à sortir la boîte de 400 livres à décidé qu'il partait pour Norman Wells boire avec des amis...nous sommes donc coincées toutes les deux là se demandant comment on va réussir à sortir la maudite boîte du camion. Marti me regarde et dit: on devrait juste attaché la boîte au bâtiment et s'en aller avec le camion...elle va sortir du camion cette boîte là.....j'ai tellement rit. Nous avons finalement réussi à trouver des gens qui pourraient nous aider à 1h30 du matin à déplacé une maudite grosse boîte. Et on est revenue. Arrivé à norman wells: 5:30AM

Wink: when we got to good hope the guy who was suppose to help us get the 400lbs box out of the truck decided that he was leaving for Norman Wells to go drink. The two of us are than standing there wandering what to do. Marti looks at me and says: we should tie the box to the building and drive away...it'll get out of the truck. I laughed so much. We ended up getting help from a bounch of people at 1:30 AM to move that big heavy box. and we drove back, arriving in Norman Wells: 5:30AM
